Forest Park Leisure Centre wins Sustainable Energy Award

Gorey Courtown Forest Park Ltd. wins Sustainable Energy Award for Best Renewable Energy Project! Visit the Sustainable Energy Awards pages of the Sustainable Energy Ireland website for more information.

The Judges had this to say about the renewable energy project:

"[Forest Park Leisure Centre] has demonstrated a highly integrated renewable energy and energy efficiency solution together with an effective and instructive building monitoring system. The project is therefore considered to be innovative with a high replication potential."

Forest Park Leisure Centre is the first leisure centre in the country to install a 75kw Vestas Wind Turbine to provide renewable energy to the centre. This is in addition to the already installed 550kw Gilles Biomass Boiler which has cut our oil usage down to near zero.

The next phase of our renewable energy project is a viability study investigating the potential of integrating solar powered systems into the centre to provide an additional source of heat.

This, combined with other energy efficient practices, such as heat retaining pool covers on all three pools when not in use, an automated building management system and lights linked to motion sensors and dedicated recycling bins throughout the centre means Forest Park Leisure Centre is a flagship centre for sustainable energy use and environmentally aware practises.
