Swim Ireland Child Learn to Swim program Launched at Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre
Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre has become the first Leisure Facility in Kerry to start the Swim Ireland “Child Learn to swim“program, this week.
The facility has spent the summer months working closely with Swim Ireland to train all its Swim Academy instructors on providing a comprehensive swimming instruction and lifesaving skills programme to children and adults.
The aim of this program is to set national standards for teaching of swimming. It comprises of 8 levels, all of which have been specifically developed to encourage swimmers to acquire the skills necessary for swimming. It follows a progressive syllabus with each child earning certificates and badges as they progress upwards through the levels. The aim of the swim academy is to develop a swimming centre of excellence.
The new term which started last week has over 600 children enrolled said Paul Cullinan General Manager, parents are always looking for the best instruction when it comes to their child’s teaching and we want to keep the academy at the forefront of swim teaching and are delighted to be recognises as a centre of excellence by Swim Ireland.
Under the guidance of Mags Harty the centres Swim coordinator and her swimming instructors who are accredited by Swim Ireland they will be rolling this course out over the next 10 weeks of our classes. School swimming will be using the PAWS program for their sessions; these were developed with Irish Water Safety to make sure all children have a good working knowledge of safety skills associated with indoor & outdoor water.
For more details of the program contact either Mags or Shauna on 064 6636554, or check our Swim Ireland or IWS websites
