Having someone as highly qualified in so many relevant and technical areas already on our staff has a number of very positive benefits to Coral Leisure and subsequently the centres we manage. The most obvious benefit, being cost savings. Modern health and safety laws in the workplace for both customers and staff mean ongoing Health & Safety Audits are required along with annual training for current staff and new staff; such as Manual Handling and Fire Warden training, all of which Gerry is qualified to instruct. In addition to the regulatory training required, industry specific training is also required in the form of Lifeguard training, First Aid Skills and Swim Teacher Training; again all of which Gerry can provide in each of the centres across the group The cost savings of having this service already available in house are significant. In one example for providing only some of the services Gerry could provide, one of our centres was quoted over €9,000 by outside contractors, as opposed to the cost of utilising Gerry which was €1,500. That was a saving of over €7,500 in just one year. That’s an ongoing saving annually because of an asset like Gerry Brennan on the staff at Coral Leisure. Gerry’s many qualifications include the following: IOSH Managing Safely H&S, ILSE Risk Assessor for Bathing Areas FETEC Level 6 Manual Handling, Guardian Safety Fire Warden. VDU Risk Assessment, FETEC Train the Trainer, IWS Examiner, IWS Pool Lifeguard Provider, IWS Swim Teacher Tutor, PHECC Cardiac First Response instructor To find out more about what Coral Leisure and Gerry can do for your Leisure Facility, Contact Siobhan Tighe, Managing Director at siobhan.tighe@coralleisure.ie
or David Moore, Operations Director at david.moore@coralleisure.ie Each year Coral Leisure chooses a charity to be our Charity Partner for that year. Each of the 9 centres in the Coral Leisure Group nationwide then runs a number of fundraising events over the course of that year with all proceeds going to our chosen partner.
This year Coral Leisure is going in a slightly different direction. As part of the Coral Leisure philosophy, each centre lays down strong roots and integrates fully into our local community, in which we serve. So following on from this philosophy, in 2018 Coral Leisure is not having just one Charity Partner, but 10 Charity Partners. As every family in Ireland has been affected or touched by cancer to some extent, this year Coral Leisure has partnered up with those charities who support not just the sufferers of Cancer but their families too. Each centre in the Coral group, along with our Head Office in Dublin, has partnered up with a local cancer support group. So the money raised locally will go to the local charity, in all probability supporting someone you know in your local area. Coral Leisure looks forward to raising as much money as possible in 2018 to support these fantastic charities which do an amazing and often unsung job. So keep an eye on your local centre for upcoming events over the whole year. The White Flag Scheme is the most sought after accolade in the leisure and fitness industry, and is awarded to facilities that meet the operational standards for leisure and fitness facilities as set out in the scheme. The standard is designed to encourage continuous improvement within the sector and recognises facilities for their remarkable standards in the areas of safety, hygiene, customer service and human resources. The White Flag Awards are the only industry specific award for the leisure, health and fitness sector in Ireland.
Coral Leisure is Ireland’s leading Leisure Management Company, managing nine swimming pool and leisure facilities nationwide. Coral Leisure manage public leisure centres in Arklow, Askeaton, Ballinasloe, Cobh, Killarney, Longford, Monaghan, Tuam & Wicklow. For the second year running all nine centres in the Coral Leisure group achieved the Gold Standard White Flag. This is an amazing achievement for public leisure centres which have some of the highest user rates in the country. Speaking at the Ireland Active Annual Conference and White Flag Awards, CEO of Ireland Active, Conn McCluskey said: “The White Flag Awards reward excellence in the Leisure, Health and Fitness sector, and Coral Leisure have been rewarded for their standards across the group by achieving nine Gold standard awards for a second year, which is a remarkable achievement. Minister Phelan in his address opening our Conference and Awards recommended that all Local Authority Leisure Centres achieve the Gold standard in the White Flag National Quality Awards, and Coral leisure are meeting this standard in all their facilities. We congratulate them on another year of excellence and look forward to them achieving the standard again next year.” Siobhan Tighe, Managing Director, Coral Leisure said: “We are extremely proud of this amazing achievement. Over 250 Coral leisure staff nationwide work tirelessly every day to ensure the highest standards of customer service, hygiene and safety in our nine centres. This effort has been recognised and rewarded by Ireland Active.” Looking towards 2018, Coral Leisure will aim to make it a full house of Gold Awards for the third year in a row, by continuing to maintain the standards set by Ireland Active, the Department of Local Government and Coral Leisure. David Moore, Operations Director of Coral Leisure: “We have a holistic approach to health and fitness. We endeavour to get involved in our local communities and support them in any way we can. We provide exciting and innovative programmes which are designed to reflect a lifestyle driven approach, focusing on health, fitness, wellness, sport and education to provide for a healthier Community” In a remarkable testament to the professionalism and dedication of Coral Leisure and all the Coral staff nationwide, all 9 Coral Leisure centres across the group nationwide were awarded Gold Standard Ireland Active White Flag Awards this year
Coral Leisure and the Management teams of all 9 centres are extremely proud of this achievement and would like to thank all their extremely hard working diligent dedicated staff members for contributing to this achievement These awards show that Coral Leisure delivers and aims to continue to deliver the best standard customer care and customer experience in the Leisure Centre Industry in Ireland This year’s Ireland Active Conference and White Flag National Quality Standard Awards took place at the Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone on Friday, 11th November. The ceremony awarded leisure and fitness facilities for their remarkable standards in the areas of safety, hygiene, customer service and human resources. The White Flag National Quality Standard, grades facilities’ operational standards, similar to the Blue Flag award which classifies Ireland’s beaches, and it is the most sought after accolade in the leisure and fitness industry. It is the only industry specific award for the Irish leisure and fitness sector and this year saw over 100 entrants for the Awards. The White Flag National Quality Standard is based on the four essential areas when operating any leisure or fitness centre: Safety, Hygiene, Customer Engagement and HR. The standard is designed to encourage continuous improvement and it is categorised into three levels for the leisure and fitness sector: Gold, Silver and Bronze.
